POETRY WORKSHOP: THE GARDEN

Professor and writer Lauren M. Davis will lead a poetry workshop on the “Illumination Poem,” a poem which focuses—in great detail—on one event, memory, moment, or visual that the writer experienced and includes a written realization in response to the chosen theme. Attendees will receive instruction on how to define, recognize, and write an “Illumination Poem” through a short lecture, and the reading and explication of published poems in this form. Attendees will then be given time to write and mimic the “Illumination Poem” style. The workshop will end with the option to share what one wrote and/or what they experienced during writing time. To participate, please bring writing materials and a tangible object which will represent the event, memory, moment, or visual you wish to write about during this workshop.
